Twice Governor of the Virginia Colony (1621-1625; 1639-1642)

The first English colonial governor of Virginia. He became governor in 1621, shortly after his arrival in October, taking with him the first written constitution for an English colony.

Sir Francis Wyatt, who came to Virginia twice as Governor (1621-1629 & 1642) returned to England and died there. With the death of his son and heir, Edwin Wyatt, this line became extinct. The Virginia Wyatts legitimately succeeded, but no claim by them to the title or to the ancestral seat in England was prosecuted. Other sons of Sir Francis died in infancy, but his youngest son, Edwin, who was born in 1629, the family fame continued. Edwin Wyatt rose to distinction in the legal and professional world (as is fully described by the massive genealogical monument erected by himself in the church. He was Justice of the Peace for Kent, Sergeant-at-Law, 1684, etc. "Boxley Parish". Cave Brown (p. 183)

The village of Boxley, Kent, England, with its Allington Castle, Parish Church, St. Andrew's Cottage (a part of the old Abbey) all associated with Wyatt antecedents, is a shrine visted in recent years by several descendents of the present generation. Letters from two soldiers of the World War, Mr. Wyatt Rushton, deceased, and Mr. marion Rushton, of Montgomery, Alabama, give vivid descriptions of these historical places. In 1928 the writer made a pilgrimage to Boxley and the nearby castle. Lady Conway, wife of Sir Martin Conway, archaeologist, then owner of the property, graciously permitted a thorough inspection of the ancient structure. The Parish church pavement hold the remains of that Jamestown Minister, Sir Francis Wyatt, and Rev. Hawte Wyatt, who left issue in Virginia, as recorded in the Wyatt monumental tablet, set in the wall of the chancel.

(bio by Wikipedia) Sir Samuel Sandys was an English landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1586 and 1622.

Sandys was the eldest surviving son of Edwin Sandys, Archbishop of York, and the brother of Edwin Sandys. He was educated at the Middle Temple in 1579.[1]

In 1586, he was elected Member of Parliament for Ripon. He succeeded to the property of his father in 1588. In about 1590, he was living in Essex where he had property, and where his eldest son was baptised at Woodham Ferrers. In about 1596 he acquired a large amount of property in Worcestershire and resettled at Ombersley. From about 1600 he was J.P. for Worcestershire and was knighted in 1603. He was elected MP for Worcestershire in a by-election in 1609. In 1612 he was a member of the council for Virginia. In 1614 he was re-elected MP for Worcestershire. He was High Sheriff of Worcestershire from 1618 to 1619. In 1621 he was re-elected MP for Worcestershire. He was a member of the council in the marches of Wales in 1623.[1]

Sandys died at the age of 62 and was buried at Wickhamford, Worcestershire.[1]

Sandys married Mercy Culpepper, daughter of Martin Culpepper of Worcestershire at Southwell, Nottinghamshire in 1586. They had four sons and seven daughters, one of whom, Cecily, married fellow M.P. John Brace, J.P., Lord of Doverdale Manor, Worcs.[2].

Oldest McGing
The question is how does this person fit with the theoretical lineage DNA is proposing? As one of the oldest, he/she could be a sibling to others we know of but are unaware of the sibling relationship. If a Male McGing/McGinn Ging of this line could Y-DNA test at least a 37 (but must stress 67 is better) we'd know more and could triangulate back to the shared ancester. Moving earlier in time here is all conjecture, but looking for evidence and DNA is a key piece.
