Rish Speaker Sean Molloy ill Be Deeply Missed By His Many Friends

The people of Carnew, Gorey, and the surrounding areas were saddened at the news of the passing of Sean Molloy NT of The Rock, Gorey, on April 17 last. He was 59.

Although he had been ill for the past few months, his death was totally unexpected, and indeed his colleagues at Carnew National School had looked forward to his return before the summer holidays. Sadly this was not to be.

Sean was born in Cornamona in Galway in 1946. He qualified as a Primary School teacher from St. Patrick's Training College in 1965. Sean began his teaching career in Askamore N.S. where he was appointed as Principal at the age of 20.

Sean remained there for ten years until the school was amalgamated with Ballyellis N.S. He then moved to Carnew N.S. where he taught for the next thirty years. Sean was loved and respected by his colleagues, pupils and friends. He was a dedicated teacher and instilled in the children a love of history and all things Irish.

A native Irish speaker, he had a great love of the Irish language and culture and nurtured this in the classroom.

Sean is survived by his mother Barbara, and his three sons Michael, Marcus and Stephen, past-pupils of Carnew N.S. and a large family circle.

He was buried in his local churchyard of Clonbur in the Connaught Gaeltacht, a place that was always dear to his heart.

Sean will be sadly missed by his colleagues and many friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The wake for Father Cornelius Murray, senior priest-retired, will begin with vespers at 3 p.m. Nov. 5 at St. Brendan Church, 4242 Brendan Lane, North Olmsted, and will continue until 7 p.m. Bishop Martin Amos, retired bishop of Davenport, Iowa, will preside at vespers. Homilist will be Father Thomas Woost, St. Brendan pastor.

Mary A. Murray (nee Knapp), 67, of Elyria, died Sunday, December 26, 2010 at her home, following a sudden illness. She was born April 19, 1943 in Sullivan and was an Elyria resident for most of her life.

Mary worked as a unit secretary at EMH Regional Medical Center for 20 years, retiring in 2003. A 1961 Midview High School graduate, she was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Elyria, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and distributed communion every Friday at EMH Regional Medical Center.

She was a member of AMVETS Post #32 in Elyria and enjoyed taking care of her family.

Survivors include her daughters, Cynthia (Doug) Bartee of Tucson, Arizona, Londy (John) Eskins and Shannon Murray, both of Elyria and Connie Murray of Toledo; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister, Lida Mays of Grafton; brothers, Hugh Knapp and Ed Knapp, both of Elyria and Don Knapp of Grafton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Murray in 2004; son, Barry Murray in 2006; sisters, Cathy Schramm and Jean Salva; and brother, Les Knapp.

The family will receive friends Thursday, December 30, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria, 440-322-4626. Closing prayers will be Friday, December 31, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. in the funeral home, followed by a 11 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. The Rev. Londy was born on August 30, 1966 in Fairborn, OH to her parents, James Edward and Mary Ann (nee Knapp) Murray. She married the love of her life, John Eskins, on January 25, 1986.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Murray; and brother, Barry Murray.
