Tom McGing, Sr., age 69, of Hammond, IN, passed away suddenly on Wednesday
July 16, 2003 at St. Margaret Mercy Hospital. Beloved husband of "Gigi" Geraldine E. (nee Smulski) for 46 years. Loving father of Tom McGing Jr.; Fond brother-in-law of Dolly (Dave) Kallas; cherished uncle and Godfather of Doug Kallas; pet, doggie-in-law "My Buddy" Danny Kallas; nephew and Godson Don L. (Cathy) Smulski II; nephew, Christopher (Bo) Smulski; great-nephew, Don L. Smulski III, great nephew, Michael Smulski, and niece, Marylou (Mike) Hamari and great niece Dara Hendricks. He was preceded in death by parents-in-law Chris Smulski 1979 and Sally (nee Szura) in 1965.

Tom retired as a Captain from the Hammond Fire Department with 40 years of service as a Firefighter and enjoyed the years that he served. Tom was the treasurer of the Hammond Fire Department's Credit Union for 32 years. He was a member of St. Casimir Church, Hammond Fire Department Local 556 and the Hammond Mohawks Athletic Conservation Club. Tom was also a 1952 graduate of Bishop Noll Institute and he attended Calumet College. Tom was a loving, caring husband, father, uncle, Godfather, brother-in-law and friend. He and his son were enthusiastic Chicago Bear and Notre Dame Football and Chicago Cubs Baseball fans. He liked antique cars especially the 79 Camaros and 57 Chevys. He liked being "Uncle Tom". Tom's immediate family meant the world to him. He enjoyed spending time with them. Tom was a wonderful family man whose dedication to his son Tom was heartwarming. They were great pals. Tom will be greatly missed and loved by his family and friends. He will live forever in their hearts.

Friends may meet with the family on Monday evening, July 21, 2003 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM, at the Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Ave., Munster, IN. Prayer service at the funeral home Monday evening. Funeral services will be private. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, IL. Christian Graveside Service with Rev. Charles Niblick officiating. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date.

The couple plan to be married early next fall. Mr. MCGING is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael MCGING Sr. of 4310 Hickory St., Hammond. The bride-elect is a secretary at the General American Transportation Corp. She is a graduate of Bishop Noll High School. The double ring ceremony was solemnized at 10 a.m. by the Rev. Julian Jercha. Large white bows with palms were attached to the pews, and three large arches decked with flowers, also were placed just before the altar. P. Konsinger provided the organ music and Miss Angie soloist, sang "On This Day." The bride also presented a bouquet of white roses and blue and pink tinted carnations to the statue of the Blessed Virgin. Ushering the guests to the pews were Richard Dauszka, Gene Darmofalski, Robert Glowacki and Gene Pinarski. Richard Highsmith attended the groom as best man. The bride's gown was fashioned of imported Chantilly lace and designed with an enormously full Cathedral train, a lace bodies featuring a Sabrina neckline embroidered with iridescent sequins. The bouffant skirt fell from a waistline of shirred nylon tulle and lace forming points all around the skirt. Her fingertip veil of French silk illusion, was held by a queen's crown trimmed with rhinestones and pearls. THE BRIDE carried a white prayerbook topped with white orchids and a cascade of stepha- notis and white rosebuds, a gift of her flower girl, Cathy Rogalski. She also carried the same white lace handkerchief which her sister-in-law, Mrs. Donald L. Smulski carried at her wedding. She was given in marriage by her father. Miss Patti Ann Rogalski, as maid of honor, wore a white lace gown over pink taffeta. The bodice was covered with a stole and the bouffant skirt was fashioned of rows of lace and nylon tulle, from the waist to hemline. Completing her attire were a pink hat of straw flowers tied at the back by a large pink bow, pink gloves and a cascade bou- quet of pink Fuji mums and pink feathered carnations. THE MISSES Dolly Jean Smulski, sister of the bride, Patricia Smulski, Beverly Novak, Sandra Szura and Elaine Smulski were bridesmaids. They wore lace gowns over blue tafefta, the dresses designed identically in to that worn by the maid of honor. They wore powder blue hats of straw flowers tied with bows and carried cascades of blue Fuji mums and powdered blue feathered carnations. Page girls, carrying the bride's train, were Marcia Craybeek and Bhirley Lebioda. They wore their dresses of white lace over pink taffeta with skirts made of alternating ruffles of white lace and colored nylon tulle. They also had pink hats tied beneath the chin and wore wristlets of pink roses Cathy Rogalski, as flower wore white lace over blue taffeta and carried a basket filled with baby mums and rose petals. David Kornaus was ring bearer. IMMEDIATELY following the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served to 200 guests. A reception for guests was held In Memorial Hall, East Chicago, before the couple left by motor for Miami Beach. The bride wore a royal blue velveteen duster ensemble of royal blue and (heath of brocaded satin. When they return from their honeymoon they will live at 1522 Hoffman St., Hammond. The bride, a graduate of Noll High School, is secretary to the office manager at General American Transportation Corp., Plant 3. in East Chicago. Gigi McGing, age 71, a lifelong resident of Hammond, IN passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2008. She is survived by one son, Tom McGing, Jr. of Hammond, IN; loving sister Dolly (Dave) Kallas; nephews: Doug, Don and Mike; niece, Mary Lou; special friends: Sharon (Bob) Meyers; special buddy, "Danny" the pet dog. She was preceded in death by her parents: Chris "Papa" and Sally "Ma" Smulski; and her late husband of 47 years, Tom "Big Tom" McGing. Gigi loved all life had to offer including shopping, eating out at different restaurants and going to craft shows. She was an avid sports fan whose favorite teams include the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Black Hawks, Chicago Bulls and Chicago Sting. Gigi was a retired secretary from General American Tank Car in East Chicago. Gigi was a wonderful wife, mother and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. A private funeral service was held for Gigi at Burns-Kish Funeral Home, Munster, IN.
