Mrs Breege Gannon
Wednesday, 05 March 2008
Lecanvey, Westport
Mrs Breege Gannon, Lecanvey, Westport. The death has taken place at her residence, in the loving care of her family and following a short illness borne with courage and resignation, of Mrs Breege Gannon, Lecanvey, Westport, a well-known and very highly-regarded resident of the area. She was formerly Breege Rabbett, a native of Srah, Tourmakeady, and she passed away on February 8 last.
Breege was a woman of kind and gentle disposition and a person of very deep faith. Prior to her marriage in 1959, Breege worked as a nurse in Mayo General Hospital, having previously trained in London, where she also worked for some time. From time to time throughout her life her nursing skills were called upon in the local community and were always generously and wholeheartedly given.
She will be very sadly missed by her husband, Jim, sons, Noel (Lecanvey), Eamonn (London), and Seamus (Lecanvey), daughters, Sinéad Gavin (Erriff), Maura McNamara (Dublin) and Deirdre (Lecanvey), sister, Maura McGing (Ayle, Westport), brother, Kevin Rabbett (Aughleam, North Mayo), sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, other relatives, neighbours and many friends.
Breege's removal was from her residence on Saturday, February 10, to St Patrick's Church, Lecanvey, where Fr Paddy Gill officiated. The large attendance was indicative of Breege's high standing in the community and, indeed, further afield.
Fr Gill was the celebrant of Breege's Funeral Mass, at which family members read the lessons and prayers of the faithful and brought the offertory gifts to the altar. The funeral liturgy was beautifully complemented by the singing of Lecanvey Church choir.
Fr Gill paid generous tribute to Breege for the many Christian qualities she demonstrated throughout her life. She was a devoted wife and mother and often used her professional skills for the benefit of the wider community. He also described Breege as a person of deep faith, in regular communion with God, and always willing to help others in a real spirit of Christianity.
He extended the sympathy of the whole community to Breege's husband, Jim, her sons, daughters, brother, sister, grandchildren and extended family.
Breege was laid to rest in the family grave in Murrisk Abbey Cemetery.
May her kind and caring soul rest in peace. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam dílis.
Breege's Month's Mind Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, March 9, at 11.30am in St Patrick's Church, Lecanvey.

Biography

Mary Ann McLaughlin was born in 1960 in Chicago, Cook, IllinoisG. She died on May 17, 2022, at age ~62, in Hoffman Estates, IllinoisG.
Ary Anne Foster, age 62, passed away peacefully and of sober mind while surrounded by her sons, sisters, and best friend on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at St. Alexius Hospital in Hoffman Estates. Mary Anne was the daughter of the late Michael and the late Kathleen (nee McGing) McLaughlin. Her childhood took her from the green fields of County Mayo to the scenic cliffs of County Donegal to the neighborhood streets of Edison Park. Her childhood environments were as eclectic as her personality, which both helped her graduate at the top of her class from Taft High School and allowed her to cause mischief amongst nuns and teachers alike in three different countries.

Mary Anne utilized these talents to inspire the next generation of learners, and trouble-makers, as both a library clerk in Des Plaines and a teacher's aide in Mt. Prospect. However, her greatest lessons were reserved for her most valued treasure: her love for her four granddaughters. It was not uncommon to find Mary Anne crawling on the floor, playing with the little girls that emulated their grandmother's creativity. Additionally, Mary Anne loved volunteering at sober living communities, such as the Woodstock Alano Club (WAC); sharing her deep spiritual connection and meditations with family and friends; and spending time with her Chick-fil-A family, where she was a Brand Ambassador.

Anyone who knew Mary Anne knew how easy and enjoyable it was to talk with her; she loved to converse almost as much as she loved Diet Dr. Pepper, Jeopardy, Gummy Bears, and murder mystery shows. Her humor, patience, openness, and love were unrivaled; the world smiled at Mary Anne, and Mary Anne smiled at the world.

She is survived by her four sons: Billy, Luke (Anna), Tommy (Amanda), and Brendan; her four granddaughters: Katelyn, Quinn, Ella, and Emma; her four brothers: Mike, Charlie, Jimmy, and Pat; as well as her two best friends and sisters: Eileen (Danny) Smolak and Kathy (Mark) Henmueller. She is preceded in death by her sisters Diane McLaughlin and Nora (Mark) Markham.
Mary Anne will be honored at Friendship Park Conservatory on Thursday, June 16. Visitation will be from 5:00-9:00 p.m. with blessing and bagpipes at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made by following this link: gofundme.com/maryannefoster. The family will send all donations to the places Mary Anne appreciated and loved most (SHARE, WAC, and others).
