and formally of Moyhastin and his Mother was Margaret Gavin from Croghrimcarra near Bohaun.

He lived on Peter Street, Westport with his wife Bridie (nee Walsh from Kilmilkin in Co Galway (near Leenane) and 3 sons, Jimmy, Padraig and Padder all now dead.

James McGing was an elected member of Westport Urban District Council for many years and was Chairman of the Council for 8 years. He ran as a Fine Geal candidate on two occasions the constituency of Mayo West and was defeated on both occasions. He died in 1950.

MR. JAMES McGING, P.C
Mr. James McGing, P.C, who has died, was an accountant and chairman of Westport Urban District Council. He was also a member of Westport Harbour Board. He unsuccessfully contested two Dail elections for Fine Gael. A fluent native speaker, he gave Irish lessons to the children of the late Canon Hannay (George A. Birmingham) when he was Rector of Westport. He is survived by his widow and two sons, James McGing, B.E. (India), and Paddy McGing, Westport. He was brother of Mr. John McGing, postmaster, Aille, Westport; Mr. Dan McGing, merchant, Westport; Mr. Ml. McGing, Mrs. Reilly and Miss May McGing, do.

Michael McGing was born on October 10, 1882 in Westport, Mayo, IrelandG. He died on July 19, 1961, at age 78, in Westport, Mayo, IrelandG.

Patrick came to America with his brother Peter (Pete Joe).

Per 1930 US Census immigrated in 1905

Patrick was Patrick McGing and not McGinn, lived in Chicago and worked for the Edison Co in Chicago. He married May Henry a native of Carlingford Co Louth and the had their First Baby Girl Margaret McGing in Chicago. In 1913, at the outbreak of World War 1 Patrick and his Wife May came back to Ireland and to Westport. Patrick opened a small Grocery Store on James Street in Westport. 3 or 4 of his Children were born in Westport and one was born in the house where we (Michael McGing) now live. Patrick spent more time helping his Brother James with James "Flour Mill" just up the street from Patrick's Shop.

Patrick's wife May was not happy with the way things were going here in Westport and she longed to return the U.S. They did so in October 1920 and he never returned.

Born in Bridge Street, Shown as already being in the US when brother Peter arrived on Aug 19, 1906.

From the Ships manifest:

October 9, 1920 Patrick McGing, age 35 and his family returned to New York on the ship Aquitania, which had left from Southampton, England. They traveled steerage. Westport was listed as their last residence. The family included spouse Mary, age 30, Margaret Ellen, age 9, Mary Esther, age 8, Julia, age 6, Catherine, age 4 and Patrick, age 10 months. Per the manifest, Patrick was 5 foot 7 inches, had a sallow complexion, brown hair and blue eyes. Mary was 5 foot 4 inches, had a fair complexion, brown hair and blue eyes.

Patrick and Mary had been in the US before, in 1905 and 1913, and Margaret Ellen had been in 1913 as well. This was the 1st visit for the other children. The manifest shows that they intended to stay permanently. They were heading to Patrick's aunt's house, Julia McGing, 5416 S. Lincoln, Chicago. Per the manifest, Patrick and all the children were born in Westport. Mary was born in Carlingford.

Mass for Patrick McGing, 75, of 7838 S. May st., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Sabina's church, 7800 Throop st. Mr. McGing died of a heart attack Tuesday. He retired 15 years ago as cable foreman for Commonwealth Edison company where he had been employed for 30 years. Surviving are his widow, Mary; four daughters, Mrs. Julia Mongan, Mrs. Kitty Fahey, Mrs. Eileen Krause, and Miss Esther McGing; two sons, Patrick Jr., and Stephen; and 10 grandchildren.

Peter lived for most of his life in New York and worked as a printer with the New York Times. He Died in Queens Village about 1968?. He had two sons Pat McGing and James McGing. Pat was a printer also and got his Dads job when he retired. He now lives in Wayne in New Jersey. Pat was in the Navy in the 2nd World War. His Brother Jim was an attorney and visited Ireland twice. He also shows up in an August 18, 1921 article from the NY Times listing their 1885
employees. The Composing Room shows a P McGing.

Married in Church of the Holy Rosary,

Maureen Pelly who married a Daniel McGing on 17 October 1935. The photocopy of the marriage record I have is very blury and difficult to read. I couldn't make out Daniel McGing's residence at the time of his marriage. I think the word says Westport, so he probably belongs to the Westport McGings. He was age 36 at the time of his marriage, so should have been born around 1899 and his profession says shopkeeper. His father was Patrick McGing, also a shopkeeper.

The bride was Maureen Pelly, age 26, father being Francis Pelly, hotel keeper, from Castlebar.
The marriage took place in Castlebar. James McGing was a witness. Dean Kelly, John Joseph Kelly (then parish priest of Castlebar) married them.
