Bob was born in Spokane, Washington on September 1, 1950 to the late Leslie Ernest and Francis Rose (Schmidt) Melchert. He worked as a teacher in Washington State for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, riding motorcycles, and made the best fried chicken. Above all else, Bob loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He found great joy in taking his grandchildren to Dairy Queen for ice cream.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; by his sister, Judith Ann Thrawley; and by 1 nephew and 2 nieces.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held at a later date.
